My sister was asked to be the MOH for her friend's wedding and then I got asked to make her a dress. I learned a couple new things on this project.
It always takes longer than you think it will.
My eyes are starting to do that over 40 thing. Hand sewing on black satin is not a treat!
All in all I am very pleased with how it turned out. My sister is difficult to fit and she knows she owes me for the rest of her natural life! LOL
I started this Easter weekend and completed it April 22, 2010.
So you know how hard it is to come up with names for all my projects?! This is Simplicity 2886 in a cotton/spandex blend print. I cut and sewed this over the Victoria Day Weekend and made with a few 'Andeism's'. Nothing I can't live with! Sorry for the fuzzy pic and I really need a tan and I shouldn't slouch so! Love this pattern!!!!
Ha Ha! There's some things brewing in the sewing room! After the sleeves refused to cooperate on my trench I decided I needed something easy to reaffirm my sewing skills. So I went with this. It's New Look 6557 View B. I fell in love with the fabric (95% cotton 5% spandex blend) and then found the pattern that seemed to fit to a T! All in all the pattern was an easy one. I did measure out the top of the pattern to make sure it fit and double checked the finished measurements printed on the pattern. Forgetting that it's a New Look pattern that for some reason their patterns always finish up two sizes too big for me! So after some alterations and resetting the zipper about 4 times I got the fit right. Love it! I got compliments all day when I wore it to work! I cut this on the weekend and wrapped it up last night August 16th, 2010.
The Guy has been asking me for a couple years for some new gig shirts. So I decided for the big 60th bday that I better come through! This is McCall's 2149 in XL a pattern I own 3 copies of! I must be drawn to it and think that'd be a great shirt for the Guy...then I buy it not remembering that I've seen it somewhere before! This was cut on the weekend of August 21st, 2010 (actually I cut 3 shirts) out of some 100% silk my mom gave me to make him a shirt from. I finished it September 1st, 2010.
Ahhh HotPattens, how do you stay in business? This is the yoked skirt pattern and as usual, the pattern was missing notches, pieces weren't labeled, the spec drawing shows a front center seam yet that pattern indicates the front is cut on the fold and the paneled skirt prints out on two different pieces of paper mid skirt with no indication of where you are to match up the pieces to make one complete pattern piece! All that aside, I love this skirt. I chose a rayon/wool blend (same fabric I used for my brown suit) in a grey tweedy pattern. I cut and sewed on the weekend of August 21st, 2010.
This is not just any polar fleece, this is the ultimate! So soft and squishy and delicious! I made this up for our family gift exchange as I drew my brother girlfriend. I understand she hasn't taken it off since she got it! Yay! Cut and sewn December 26, 2010.
