Sexy Sumatra Bag
It is sexy, isn't it?! This is HotPatterns Sumatra Bag a free downloadable pattern from fabric.com. As great as this bag turned out the pattern is flawed. There are critical markings missing and the directions are vague, as per usual with this particular company. I started this way back in September and plugged away at it. Threw it across the room a few times from pattern frustration and thought it would never get completed when my sewing machine overloaded trying to sew up the top edge. So it sat there, almost completed on my cutting table for a couple months. I knew I wouldn't be able to sew the edge without an industrial machine. There were too many layers of fabric. Now I know someone with an industrial machine, so I emailed Dear Mandy and asked if I could come over and use her machine for about a half hour. How surprised was I when she asked me if I wanted to take the machine home for good?! So I did. It powered through the layers like butter. The machine is amazing, I am so happy and I can't thank Dear Mandy enough. The handles are bamboo and purchased at the sewing store. The bag was completed somewhere in the 3rd week of December 2009.
